Adjectives in Central Atlas Tamazight[edit | edit source]

Adjectives in Central Atlas Tamazight usually come after the noun they modify. They can also come after a verb, but in that case, the adjective has a different function and can be considered as a predicate adjective.

Here are some examples of adjectives in Central Atlas Tamazight:

Central Atlas Tamazight Pronunciation English
โดฐโตโต”โดฐโตก anraw black
โดฐโดทโต‰โดท adid white
โดฐโตขโตœ ayแนญ tall
โต‰โดฑโต”โต‰โต” ibrir small

In the examples above, you can see that adjectives in Central Atlas Tamazight do not change their form depending on the gender of the noun they modify. However, they can change their form depending on the number of the noun, which can be singular or plural.

Agreement between Adjectives and Nouns[edit | edit source]

In Central Atlas Tamazight, adjectives must agree in number with the noun they modify. This means that if the noun is plural, the adjective also becomes plural. Here are some examples:

  • Singular:
    • โดฐโดทโต‰โดท โดฐโตŽโดฐโต™โต™โดฐ adid amassa (white house)
    • โดฐโตขโตœ โดฐโตŽโดฐโต™โต™โดฐ ayแนญ amassa (tall house)
  • Plural:
    • โดฐโดทโต‰โดทโตŽโต‰โดนโตœ โดฐโตŽโดฐโต™โต™โดฐ adidmidt amassa (white houses)
    • โดฐโตขโตœโตŽโต‰โดนโตœ โดฐโตŽโดฐโต™โต™โดฐ ayแนญmidt amassa (tall houses)

As you can see, when the noun is plural, the adjective takes the suffix -midt to indicate that it is also plural. Note that this suffix is not always used, and some adjectives do not change in the plural form.
