Genders in Hugarian[edit | edit source]
Hungarian does not know the grammatical category of the genre. We only express the natural gender, by various means.
Usually there are different words for masculine and feminine: szerzetes "monk" / apáca "religious".
Sometimes the composition is used with the word nő "woman" (színész "actor" + nő ➡ színésznő "actress").
In some cases, the natural gender is expressed only through the context.
For example for "grandson" and "granddaughter" there is only one word, unoka.
