Sometimes, even native French people do not know when to put an "s" to "vingt" (20). Here are the rules:

"Vingt " takes the plural mark, "s", when it is multiplied, but it loses it as soon as it is followed by another numeral adjective ("treize ", "quinze ", "mille ", etc.)
Example[edit | edit source]
- La société compte quatre-vingts salariés. (The company has eighty employees.)
but
- Tous les manteaux sont soldés à quatre-vingt-dix-neuf euros. (All coats are on sale at ninety-nine euros.)
Rule 2[edit | edit source]
However, before "millier ", "million", "milliard ", which are nouns and not numerical adjectives, the "s" remains

- Ce club de foot réputé a un budget de quatre-vingts millions d’euros. (This famous football club has a budget of eighty million euros.)
