The Aurora Hunting
- Recently I’ve returned from my trip to Arctic.
- I was in the biggest city beyond the Arctic Circle - in Murmansk.
- Although it’s beyond the Arctic Circle it’s not as cold there as often think.
- Usual winter temperature is about -10-15C, sometimes colder, as was in my trip.
- The main idea was to see the Northern Lights.
- It often happens there.
- First of all you need uncloudy sky and excited magnetosphere.
- Also you need to go further from a city and wait.
- Because Murmansk region is famous for Northern Lights there are some spots for hunting where your chances to see this phenomenon higher.
- So my friend and I rented a car and by evenings went hunting.
- We were sitting in a car looking at sky, warming up with tea and waited.
- Once we were standing outside with our heads up, because to wait outside warmer, than sit in a car without moving.
- Although the sky was uncloudy each night and we could see hundreds of stars, we didn’t catch the Aurora.
- The magnetosphere was too calm, no magnetic storms at all.
- To see the Northern Lights (or the Polar Lights, that is righter) is one of my dreams, which haven’t came true yet.
- But I still hope to catch it, planning a next trip to the North.
- I wish your dreams always comes true!
