  • Framton Nuttel had come to the village to relax after an illness.
  • He had gone to visit Mrs Sappleton on the advice of his sister.
    • When Framton had come Mrs Sappleton was upstairs, so he was waiting in the room with her niece.
  • The girl learned from Framton that he hadn’t known anyone in the village.
  • Sappleton’s niece told him a story about her aunt.
    • She said that three years ago Sappleton’s husband and her brothers had gone hunting, but they have never come back.
  • Then she pointed to the open door and said that her aunt was still waiting for them.
    • Framton shudder.
  • Then Mrs Sappleton came into the room.
    • She excused herself and said that she was waiting her husband from hunting.
  • Framton tried to talk to them about his illness, but they weren’t interested.
  • Framton glanced at the girl and saw the horror on her face.
  • He looked at the door and saw three men in the dark.
  • Framton dashed out of the house immediately.
  • Mr Sappleton entered the house and asked who had run out.
    • Mrs Sappleton replied that it was a strange man, who had frightened of something.
