  • Analysis on Ryzen processors

  • Amd has launched in March a new lineup of processors, after being absent for the last years of the store's shelves.
  • AMD was one of the top manufacturer of computer hardware before vanishing.
  • Will this launch be the comeback of AMD?
  • Before answering that question, i will do a brief overview of the new lineup.
  • The lineup is divided into four categories.
  • The cheapest one is called Ryzen 3 starting at $110 and targeting low-end computer.
    • They still suited for light gaming like esport titles.
  • Then there is the Ryzen 5 family targeting the mainstream.
  • The prices begin at $150 and can go up to $250.
  • It will cover the common gaming usage, but won’t be suited for demanding tasks like streaming or multi-monitor gaming.
    • For those kinda of task there is the Ryzen 7 processors, starting at $330.
  • Outside of this lineup there is the Thread Ripper family conceived for content creation like video editing.
    • But are those processors real game changers?
  • In fact for most users, their current computers cover their needs.
  • So they don’t need to consider an upgrade unless their current computer is broken.
    • For content creators they will benefit more of an upgrade due to their ability to use the extra power of those processors.
    • Gamers will see a much smaller benefit due that the bottleneck for that kind of usage is the GPU and not the CPU.
