  • Los Angeles

  • Here comes finally my first official post about my recent trip to the USA.
  • The first step of this trip was Los Angeles, the city of the movies, famous people and wonderful beaches.
  • On arriving, you can feel the warm wind of California breathing and gently shaking the palm trees planted along the large avenues of the city (that are, by the way, wider than almost any motorway in Europe).
  • Another thing that shook us just after we took our first step on the American ground was a great earthquake that made me feel seasick and made everything around us stir but didn’t really bother the local people who went on doing what they were doing without even seeming to notice it… Los Angeles is a big, modern, roaming city that made me (as a European who had never seen anything so big) feel really tiny.
    • Downtown LA is made of high skyscrapers and wide streets in which it was not difficult to imagine a track race just taken out of a famous action movie.
    • A bit further lays Hollywood Boulevard with its stars, famous names (most of which I had never heard of…) and theatres (the Chinese theatre in front of which are the foot and hand prints of many movie stars and producers; and the Kodak theatre where the Oscars are handed).
  • The boulevard is long, full of movement, liveliness, souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants, and funny people with crazy costumes.
  • From the mall situated next to the theatres, we can even see the Hollywood sign, perched on the hill.
  • Out of the city centre, the houses are low, settled properly along the quiet streets, and this fricked me out because it was so similar to all the criminal series I used to watch… :P Near Los Angeles are all these beaches we hear about so much: Manhattan Beach and its small, neat and cute village, Santa Mónica and its amusement park, Venice Beach, full of liveliness and people of all kinds, San Pedro and its coast made of rocks.
  • And also the huge, almost infinite harbour that seems like a big city, with its green bridge and its shipyards.
  • After two days spent in Los Angeles we left for San Francisco, 613km away.
    • We drove along the Pacific coast the whole day, passing by the most incredible landscapes I had seen until then: the wonderful beaches of Malibu and Santa Bárbara lined with big and luxurious houses that shone in the sun; the green hills covered with short trees that gave us amazing view on the even greener valleys below; small, bright villages; infinites vineyards where the famous Californian wines come from; and more beaches we passed by as the sun was setting.
    • Like in a movie, I told you ;)
