Elliptical verbs (sentences)

In Greek there are does not demand that all sentences shall be absolutely complete. It often allows (and sometimes requires) the omission of words that, though necessary to the construction, are so easily supplied by the mind that it would be mere waste of time to utter them. The omission of a word or words necessary to the grammatical completeness of a clause or sentence is called ellipsis. A clause or sentence that shows ellipsis is said to be elliptical . Ellipsis is a Greek word meaning omission. These are the verbs:

These are : ανήκω, είμαι, οφείλω, περιμένω, τρέμω, χρωστώ, ξέρω, μάχομαι, έχω, ευθύνομαι κ.α

I belong, I am, I owe, I wait, I tremble, I know, I fight, I have, I am responsible

Τhe imperative sentence a kind of elliptical sentences.

"Δάκρυσα πολύ" = I cried a lot

• "Κι εγώ", = Me too ( it means that I too cried)

• These Greek expressions indicate that:

•"Those which are easy to understand, they are omitted"

Conditional structures

In modern Greek the auxiliary verb "to have" (έχω) is not conjugated at all times

- The subjunctive is formed with the help of the particles να, όταν, για να with - the auxiliary having (έχω) in the present tense.

να έχω, να έχεις etc.

- The past subjunctive is formed using the same particles να, όταν, για να and with the auxiliary having in the past tense. να είχα, να είχες etc.

Conjugated verbs are verbs which have been changed the following: person, number, gender, tense, aspect, mood, or voice.

Verbes elliptiques :

•«τα ευκόλως νοούμενα παραλείπονται» = " Ces qui sont faciles à comprendre, ils sont omis "'

Verbes impersonnels

να έχω, να έχεις etc.

- Le subjonctif passé se forme à l'aide des mêmes particules να, όταν, για να et avec l'auxiliaire avoir au passé. να είχα, να είχες etc.
