In this lesson you will learn different ways to say "maybe" in Italian and especially what is the difference between "forse" and "magari".

"Magari" can replace "forse" without big changes of meaning:

• magari stasera vado al cinema / forse stasera vado al cinema

maybe tonight I'm going to the cinema

"piuttosto" can also replace "forse":

• piuttosto vado solo, ma con lui non viaggio / magari vado solo, ma con lui non viaggio

maybe I'll go alone, but I don't travel with him

Also "magari" is an exclamation used to express desire or regret

• magari avessi un mese di ferie!

maybe I had a month's leave!

• magari mi avessero già pagato per quel lavoro!

Maybe they had already paid me for that job!

• Non vai in montagna domenica? No, magari!, devo lavorare

Don't you go to the mountains on Sunday? No, maybe, I have to work
