Abbreviation of first names :

In French, when we want to abbreviate a first name, we keep only the first letter, followed by a dot.

For example :

Laura becomes L.

Marie becomes M.

Sophie becomes S.

Exceptions :

If the second letter of the first name is an h, and if this letter changes the pronunciation of the first, then the abbreviation of the first name will include the first two letters, and the point at the end.

For example :

Chantal becomes Ch.

Philippe becomes Ph.

Charlotte becomes Ch.
