Bonjour! French learners!

When you are visiting a bar or café in France, you need to know the vocabulary for your preferred drinks. Whether it's coffee, tea, wine, or juice, being able to communicate your order in French will make your experience more enjoyable. To help you along, we've compiled a list of the most common drinks in French with their English translations. So, raise your glass and let's toast to your success in speaking French: "À votre santé!"

How to order a drink[edit | edit source]

Here are some common French expressions to use when ordering a drink in a bar, along with their English translations:

  • S'il vous plaît, je voudrais... (Please, I would like...)
  • ...un verre de vin rouge. (...a glass of red wine.)
  • ...une bière, s'il vous plaît. (...a beer, please.)
  • ...un café, s'il vous plaît. (...a coffee, please.)
  • Pourrais-je avoir un autre verre de vin, s'il vous plaît ? (Could I have another glass of wine, please?)
  • Je voudrais prendre un autre verre de limonade, merci. (I would like to have another glass of lemonade, thank you.)

Note: The polite way to address someone in a bar or café in French is to use the formal "vous" form, rather than the informal "tu" form.
