There are several meanings to the word "CORRECTION" in French.
Here are the different meanings:
La correction d'une erreur - Correction of an error

My text need a correction
La correction d'une personne - the respectful attitude of a person
In this case "la correction" means "the good, polite, respectful attitude" of a person.
- Cette personne manque de correction.
This person is not polite.
Une maison de correction - Jailhouse
La correction des yeux - Eye correction
Un oculiste fait une correction de votre vue.
An oculist corrects sight
Prendre une correction - Be punished
- Il a fait une bêtise et il a pris une bonne correction.
He made a mistake and was severely punished.
