7 Days of the Week

In Dutch, the days of the week are as follows:

ENGLISH DUTCH
SUNDAY ZONDAG

FRIDAY VRIJDAG
SATURDAY ZATERDAG

Usage

Sentences

Here are some example sentences using the days of the week:

  • Ik heb maandag vrij. (I have Monday off.)
  • Dinsdag is mijn favoriete dag van de week. (Tuesday is my favorite day of the week.)
  • We hebben woensdagavond een vergadering. (We have a meeting on Wednesday evening.)
  • Donderdag ga ik naar de tandarts. (I'm going to the dentist on Thursday.)
  • Vrijdagavond gaan we uit eten. (We're going out to eat on Friday evening.)
  • Zaterdagochtend ga ik altijd sporten. (I always exercise on Saturday morning.)
  • Zondag is een rustdag. (Sunday is a day of rest.)

Dialogue

Here's a short dialogue to practice using the vocabulary:

  • Person A: Wat zijn je plannen voor vrijdag? (What are your plans for Friday?)
  • Person B: Ik ga naar de bioscoop met vrienden. (I'm going to the movies with friends.)
  • Person A: Leuk! En wat doe je op zaterdag? (Nice! And what are you doing on Saturday?)
  • Person B: Op zaterdag ga ik naar de markt om groenten en fruit te kopen. (On Saturday, I'm going to the market to buy vegetables and fruit.)
  • Person A: En op zondag? (And on Sunday?)
  • Person B: Zondag is mijn rustdag. Dan ga ik lekker ontspannen en een boek lezen. (Sunday is my day of rest. I'm going to relax and read a book.)
