Learn one Chinese Character a day.

Today you will learn the following Chinese character:

吗 (ma), the interrogative final particle.

吧 (ma) is one of the most common particles in Chinese. A particle means it goes on the end of a sentense.

It is used to ask questions. You will learn how to use it correctly in the examples below.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please share them by adding a comment below.

The particle is placed on the end of question which can only be answered with a “yes” or a “no”.

Here are some quick example:

Nǐ è ma? Are you hungry?

  • 你要去上海吗?

Nǐ yào qù Shànghǎi ma? Are you going to go to Shanghai?

  • 你是中国人吗?
