Breton is a Celtic language spoken by 207,000 people in Brittany in 2018. Breton belongs to the Brittonic Celtic language group. It is related to Cornish and Welsh, languages spoken in the United Kingdom, although closer to the former. Breton is recognized as a regional or minority language of France and since 2004, as the language of the Brittany region, alongside French and Gallo by the regional council. It is classified as a โ€œseriously endangered languageโ€ according to Unesco.
