| Στα επίγραμμα και στα αγγεία, 
φαίνεται καθαρά πως οι αρχαίοι έγραφαν 

μόνο με κεφαλαία και δε χρησιμοποιούσαν 

ούτε τόνους ούτε πνεύματα.

Όλες οι λέξεις των αρχαίων ελληνικών 

που αρχίζουν από φωνήεν, από δίφθογγο  

και από το σύμφωνο - '''ῥ -''' εμφανίζουν επάνω τους ένα σημάδι το λεγόμενο '''πνεύμα'''. 

Υπάρχουν δύο ειδών πνεύματα : 

η '''ψιλή''' ( '''᾽''' ) και η '''δασεία''' ( '''῾''' ).

Οι περισσότερες λέξεις που αρχίζουν  

από φωνήεν ή από δίφθογγο παίρνουν '''ψιλή.'''

 Variations of the Greek alphabet also only consisted of capitals. 

On them a sign called the spirit. 

One spirit affects all words beginning by a vowel,

by a diphthong and by the consonant : '''ῥ''' 

There are two kinds of spirits : 
* '''The smooth breathing (᾿)''' 

* '''The rough breathing (῾)'''
Most words that start with a vowel or a diphthong accept smooth breathing (᾿) 

-ἀγαθός (good), εἰρήνη (peace)

|Dans les épigrammes et dans les vases, 
il est clair que les anciens n'écrivaient 

qu'en majuscules et n'utilisaient ni des accents ni d’esprits.

Un esprit affecte tous les mots commençant
