Ancient Greek Adverbs - Επιρρήματα

Επιρρήματα λέγονται οι άκλιτες λέξεις που προσδιορίζουν κυρίως τα ρήματα και φανερώνουν : τόπο, χρόνο, τρόπο, ποσό, βεβαίωση ή άρνηση κτλ. Τα επιρρήματα κατά τη σημασία τους είναι:	Adverbs are indeclinable words which can modify a verb,  another adverb or even a whole sentence. They indicate : place, time, manner, quantity, confirmation or negation. The following tables show some examples of adverbs:	Les adverbes sont les mots invariables qui précisent ou change le sens d'un verbe. On distingue diverses catégories d'adverbes : de lieu, de temps, de manière, de quantité, la confirmation ou la négation. Les adverbes selon leur sens sont:

1) τοπικά ( lieu / place) : ποῦ;( où ? / where) πῇ;( par où ?/ from where ?) ποῖ;  (vers où? / to where?) ὅπου (par où, que/ where, what), ἔνθα (où / where) , ἐνθάδε (ici/ here), ἐκεῖ (là, à cet endroit / there, in that place), αὐτοῦ (juste là ou juste ici/ just there or just here), ἄνω (vers le haut/ upwards), κάτω (vers le bas/ downwards), ἐγγύς (près de / near, nigh), ἔσω (dans/ within), ἔξω (au dehors/ outside) κ.ά.

2) χρονικά (temps/time ): πότε;( quand ?/ when?) ὅτε (quand, au moment où/ when, at the time when), τότε (alors/ so), ὁπηνίκα et πηνίκα; (quand ? / when?) ποτὲ ( κάποτε: un jour/ someday), νῦν (mais en réalité/ but in reality ), πρίν (avant / before), ἔπειτα (ensuite, puis/ afterwards, then), πάλαι(il était une fois/ once upon a time), χθές (hier/ yesterday), σήμερον (aujourd'hui / today), αὔριον (demain/ tomorrow ), αὖ (d'autre part, de nouveau/ on the other hand, again), αὖθις ( πάλι : encore/ again) κ.ά.

3) τροπικά (manière / manner): πῶς; (comment ?/ how?)  πῇ;( comment ?par où ?/ from where ? What ? οὕτω(ς) (de cette façon, ainsi/ in this way, thus)  ὧδε (έτσι : de cette façon, ainsi /thus, in this way), ὅπως et ὡς (καθώς : comme/as), ὥσπερ (comme, même comme/ like as, even as), εὖ (bien/ good), καλῶς (bellement, bien/ beautifully, well), κακῶς (mal /badly), σωφρόνως (modération, prudence, sagesse/ moderation, prudence, wisdom) κ.ά.

4) ποσοτικά (quantité /quantity): πόσον;( combien ?/ how much ?) ὅσον ((autant) que/ as much as ), τόσον et ὁπόσον (de qque quantité que / how much), πολύ et μάλα (beaucoup / much), ἄγαν et λίαν (trop/too much), obviously, certainly), ἦ (αλήθεια : certes/) κ.ά.

5) βεβαιωτικά (confirmé / confirmed): ναί (oui / yes), μάλιστα et δὴ (βέβαια) et δῆτα ( βέβαια, χωρίς αμφιβολία : évidemment, certes, en vérité, sans doute /obviously, certainly, in truth, probably ), ἦ ( αλήθεια : vérité/ truth) κ.ά

6) αρνητικά (négation/ negation ): οὐ et μή (non, ne, ne… pas/ no, don't…)

7) διστακτικά ( hésitation/ ): ἆρα (άραγε : donc /therefore), μῶν ( μήπως : est-ce que ?/ maybe ), τάχα (soi-disant/ supposedly), ἵσως (peut être/ maybe) κ.ά.

For a stopover in a place ποῦ; Où/ where ποὺ (κάπου) : quelque part /somewhere ἐνθάδε : ici/ here ἐνταῦθα : là/ there αὐτοῦ : juste là, juste ici/  just there or just here ἐκεῖ : là, là-bas/ over there οὗ (εκεί όπου) ὅπου : par où, que/ where, what ἔνθα : où / where ὅθι : où, là où/ where Για κίνηση από έναν τόπο : Lieu passage/ Passage location ποῖ; (= προς ποιο μέρος;)  vers où? / to where? ποὶ (= κάπου, προς κάποιο μέρος) : vers où? / to where? ἐνθάδε :  ici ἐνταῦθα : là, même / same αὐτόσε : vers là même ἐκεῖσε : là, à cet endroit/              thither, to that place   οἷ, ὅποι : (= προς τα εκεί όπου) partout où, où que / wherever   ἔνθα : ici où je suis / here where i am Για κίνηση προς έναν τόπο Lieu origine/ Place of origin πόθεν; d'où ?/ from where? ποθὲν ( από κάποιο μέρος) de quelque part/ from somewhere ἐνθένδε ( απ' εδώ) :  d'ici / from here ἐντεῦθεν : de là ἐκείθεν : de là, de là-bas ὅθεν (= απ' όπου) ὁπόθεν : de partout où,  d'où que / from everywhere ἔνθεν :  d'ici où je suis/ from where i am Χρονικά : temps / time πότε; πηνίκα; (= κατά ποια ώρα;)  quand ?/ when?  ποτὲ (= κάποτε) un jour / One day τότε :alors/ so τηνίκα :alors/ so τηνικάδε : à ce moment de la journée, si tôt/ at this time of day, so early, τηνικαῦτα : (εκείνη την ώρα) ce temps / that time ὅτε : lorsque/ when ὁπότε : quand/ when ἡνίκα : au moment où/ at the time when ὁπηνίκα ( την ώρα που) au moment où/ at the time when Τροπικά : manière /manner πῶς; comment ?/ how? πὼς (κάπως) d'une certaine manière/ somehow οὕτω(ς) : ὧδε ( έτσι, ως εξής) de cette façon, ainsi / thus, in this way ὡς ( όπως) comme/as ὥσπερ ( όπως ακριβώς) comme/as ὅπως : comme/as Τοπικά ή τροπικά : de lieu ou manière place or manner πῇ; (= σε ποιο μέρος; πού; - ή πώς;) comment ?par où ? from where ? What ? πῂ (= σε κάποιον τόπο, κάπου - ή κάπως) par quelque endroit / by some place τῇδε : par ici / this way ταύτη (σ' αυτόν τον τόπο, εδώ / έτσι)  par ici / this way ᾖ, ὅπῃ ( όπου - ή όπως) : par où, que/ where, what Ποσοτικά : quantité / quantity πόσον; combien ?/ how much ?   τόσον : tellement de/ so many τοσόνδε : tout autant / τοσοῦτον : en telle quantité / in such quantity ὅπου : partout où, où que wherever ὁπόσον : de qque quantité que / how much

** Avertissement / warning Pour bien comprendre des adverbes homonymes/homophones, soyez prudents en vérifiant ses accents ou ses esprits. Bien qu'ils s'écrivent de la même manière, ils ne portent pas le même accent et surtout ils n'ont pas le même sens.
