In this lesson, we will learn about the Future Tense in Twi grammar. The future tense is used to indicate actions or events that will happen at a later time. It is a very important tense to learn, especially if you plan on communicating in the future. Understanding the Twi grammar can be challenging, but we will make it easier for you by breaking down the rules and giving you some examples.
Formation
In Twi, the future tense is formed by adding the marker "de" to the verb root. For example, the future tense of the verb "bɛka" (to study) is "de bɛka" (will study).

Usage

- Mede bɛyɛ afɔrebɔ (I will be a doctor)
Stating Intentions
The future tense can also be used to express intentions. It is a great way to express your future goals or plans. For example,
- Mede bɛgye melom (I will buy a car)
- Obiara wode bɛtena mu (Everyone will have fun)
- Yɛde bɛhwehwɛ n'ase (We will visit his place)
Making Plans
Finally, the future tense can be used to make plans. It tells us what we will do in the future. For example,
- Wode bɛma me ase (You will come to my place)
- Mawɛde bɛkyerɛ me kasa (Tomorrow, you will teach me Twi)
- Mede bɛhia sɛn (I will ask for your assistance)
Negation
Negating a sentence in the future tense involves placing "nka" after "de".

- Person 2: Yoo, wode bɛkyerɛ me kasa. (Yes, you will teach me Twi.)
- Person 1: Yɛde bɛhia afɔrebɔ sɛn? (Will we ask for doctor's assistance?)
- Person 2: Nka, yɛde bɛhia afɔrebɔ nka. (No, we will not ask for doctor's assistance.)
