Hi Marathi learners! 😊
In today's lesson, we will be discussing how to ask questions in Marathi. Asking questions is an important part of any language, and Marathi is no exception. We will look at the different types of questions, as well as the grammar rules that govern them. By the end of this lesson, you should have a good understanding of how to ask questions in Marathi.
Types of Questions
There are two main types of questions in Marathi: yes/no questions and wh-questions.
Yes/No Questions
Yes/no questions are questions that can be answered with either a yes or a no. They are usually formed by adding काय (kaay) to the end of a statement. For example:
- तू मराठी सीखत आहेस? (Tu maraathi sikhat aahes?) - Do you know Marathi?
Wh-Questions
Wh-questions are questions that require more information than just a yes or no answer. They are formed by adding a question word to the beginning of a sentence. The most common question words are कोण (kon), क्या (kya), क्यूं (kyuun), कसे (kase), कधी (kadhi), and क्यों (kyon). For example:
- कोण मराठी सीखत आहेस? (Kon maraathi sikhat aahes?) - Who knows Marathi?
- क्या तू मराठी सीखत आहेस? (Kya tu maraathi sikhat aahes?) - Do you know Marathi?
Grammar Rules
When asking questions in Marathi, there are a few grammar rules that you should keep in mind.
- When using काय (kaay) to form yes/no questions, the verb must be conjugated to the third person singular form. For example:
* तू मराठी सीखत आहेस? (Tu maraathi sikhat aahes?) - Do you know Marathi? * तू मराठी सीखत आहे? (Tu maraathi sikhat aahe?) - Does he/she know Marathi?
- When using a question word to form a wh-question, the verb must be conjugated to the first person singular form. For example:
* कोण मराठी सीखत आहेस? (Kon maraathi sikhat aahes?) - Who knows Marathi? * कोण मराठी सीखत आहे? (Kon maraathi sikhat aahe?) - Who knows Marathi?
- When using a question word to form a wh-question, the noun must be in the accusative case. For example:
* कोण मराठी सीखत आहेस? (Kon maraathi sikhat aahes?) - Who knows Marathi? * कोण मराठी सीखत आहे? (Kon maraathi sikhat aahe?) - Who knows Marathi?
