Passing Items at the Table in Amharic
When you pass an item you say:
- “ይኸው yïhäw” to mean “here you are”
and
- ማቀበል mak΄äbäl to mean “to pass”.
Imperative forms of mak΄äbäl አቀብለኝ ak΄äbïläñ ♂ pass to me
- አቀብይኝ ak΄äbïyiñ ♀
- አቀብሉኝ ak΄äbïluñ (plural)
- ያቀብሉኝ yak΄äbïluñ (polite/akïbïrot)
A less formal way to say “here you are” is also:
- እንካ ïnka ♂
- እንቺ/እንኪ ïnči / ïnki ♀
- እንኩ/እንካቹ ïnk/ïnkačhu (plural)
