In epigrams and in vessels, the original Greek alphabet did not have diacritics.
Variations of the Greek alphabet also only consisted of capitals. On them a sign called the spirit. One spirit affects all words beginning by a vowel, by a diphthong and by the consonant : ῥ There are two kinds of spirits :
Most words that start with a vowel or a diphthong accept smooth breathing (᾿) -ἀγαθός (good), εἰρήνη (peace) |
Δασεία παίρνουν τα ακόλουθα: | The rough breathing accept the following : | L'esprit rude acceptent les suivants : |
