Hi Javanese learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will be discussing the future tense in Javanese. The future tense is used to talk about events that will happen in the future. It is important to understand how to use the future tense correctly in order to communicate effectively in Javanese.
Forming the Future Tense
The future tense in Javanese is formed by adding the suffix -a to the verb stem. For example, the verb "to go" is "mangga" and the future tense of this verb is "manggaa".
Examples
Javanese | Pronunciation | English Translation |
---|---|---|
nulis | nu-lis | to write |
nulisa | nu-li-sa | will write |
mbok | m-bok | to eat |
mboka | m-bo-ka | will eat |
nggawe | ng-ga-we | to do |
nggawea | ng-ga-we-a | will do |
Negative Future Tense
The negative future tense is formed by adding the suffix -a and the negative particle ora to the verb stem. For example, the verb "to go" is "mangga" and the negative future tense of this verb is "manggaora".
Examples
Javanese | Pronunciation | English Translation |
---|---|---|
nulis | nu-lis | to write |
nulisora | nu-li-so-ra | will not write |
mbok | m-bok | to eat |
mbokora | m-bo-ko-ra | will not eat |
nggawe | ng-ga-we | to do |
nggaweora | ng-ga-we-o-ra | will not do |
Questions in the Future Tense
Questions in the future tense are formed by adding the suffix -a and the interrogative particle apa to the verb stem. For example, the verb "to go" is "mangga" and the interrogative future tense of this verb is "manggaapa".
Examples
Javanese | Pronunciation | English Translation |
---|---|---|
nulis | nu-lis | to write |
nulisapa | nu-li-sa-pa | will you write? |
mbok | m-bok | to eat |
mbokapa | m-bo-ka-pa | will you eat? |
nggawe | ng-ga-we | to do |
