Bosnian Grammar - Plurals

Welcome to the Bosnian Grammar lesson about plurals! Plurals are an important part of the Bosnian language, and understanding them is essential for speaking and writing correctly. In this lesson, we will look at the rules for forming plurals in Bosnian, as well as some examples of how they are used.

Nouns

In Bosnian, nouns can be either singular or plural. The plural form of a noun is usually formed by adding the suffix -ovi to the end of the word. For example, the singular form of the word "student" is "student", and the plural form is "studenti".

However, there are some exceptions to this rule. For example, the plural form of the word "drvo" (tree) is "drveta", not "drvovi".

Gender

In Bosnian, nouns also have gender. There are three genders: masculine, feminine, and neuter. The gender of a noun affects the way it is declined in the plural form.

For example, the plural form of the masculine noun "student" is "studenti", while the plural form of the feminine noun "knjiga" (book) is "knjige".

Adjectives

Adjectives also change in the plural form. The plural form of an adjective is usually formed by adding the suffix -i to the end of the word. For example, the singular form of the adjective "dobar" (good) is "dobar", and the plural form is "dobri".

However, there are some exceptions to this rule. For example, the plural form of the adjective "mlad" (young) is "mladi", not "mladi".

Examples

Here are some examples of how plurals are used in Bosnian:

  • Studenti su učili o istoriji. (The students were learning about history.)
  • Knjige su bile vrlo interesantne. (The books were very interesting.)
  • Dobri ljudi su pomogli sirotinji. (Good people helped the poor.)
  • Mladi su se igrali u parku. (The young ones were playing in the park.)

Conclusion
