Rules[edit | edit source]
The adjective is a modifier, ie it modifies the noun to which it relates and agrees in gender and number with this same noun. Generally, in Sicilian, the adjective follows the noun:
English | Sicilian |
---|---|
The beautiful house | La casa bedda |
The little tree | L'arvulu nicu |
The high wall | Lu muru autu |
He climbed the high ladder | Acchianò la scala auta |
We have a beautiful horse | Avèmu un cavàddu beddu |
They gave him a red ball | A ìddu ci dèttiru na palla russa |
My brother had a little dog | Mê frati avìa un cani nicu |
Sometimes the adjective comes before the noun, which it modifies to give greater emphasis to the subject.
Adjective (Sicilian) | Adjective (English) | Example (Sicilian) | Example (English) |
