Japanese calligraphy is an ancestral art.

It is considered as a way to reach the Buddha, because it requires a lot of calm and concentration.

The original name is 書道 / しょどう (shodou)

To make calligraphy you need the following stuff :

筆沖 / ふでおき(Fudeoki) : Pencil support

墨 / すみ (Sumi): Ink

硯 / すずり (Suzuri) : Inkpot

下敷き / したじき (Shitajiki) : Blotter

文鎮 / ぶんちん(Bunchin) : Paperweight
