Northern Uzbek Vocabulary - Drinks

Hi Northern Uzbek learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn about drinks in Northern Uzbek. We will go over different types of drinks and their respective translations. By the end of this lesson, you will have a better understanding of Northern Uzbek vocabulary related to drinks!

Common Drinks

One of the most common drinks in Northern Uzbek is **chai** (чай). We usually drink chai with sugar, milk, or lemon. Another popular drink is **qahva** (қаҳва), which is coffee. We can drink qahva with cream and sugar. For colder days, **shirin sara** (ширин сара) is a popular drink made of milk and sugar. It is often paired with bread or sweets.

There are also non-alcoholic tropical fruit drinks, such as **anor sharbat** (анор шарбат) made with pomegranate or **limon sharbat** (лимон шарбат) made with lemon. These are usually enjoyed during the summer months.

For those who prefer carbonated drinks, **gazli ichimliklar** (газли ичимликлар) or soda is also popular. Some people enjoy **fanta** (фанта) or **kokteyl** (коктейль) as well.

Alcoholic Drinks

There are many alcoholic drinks in Northern Uzbek. One of the most popular alcoholic drinks is **baliq sirodu** (балиқ сироду), a fish alcohol that has a strawberry-like flavor. Another popular alcoholic drink is **paxta to‘qi** (пахта тўқи), which is a fermented millet drink. It is both sweet and sour.

    • Vodka** (водка) is also popular in Northern Uzbek, especially during special occasions such as weddings or parties. Some people like to flavor their vodka by adding fruits or herbs to it.

Dialogue

To see the words in context, let's look at a dialogue about drinks:

  • Person 1: Bir shimoldagi choyni ichasizmi? (Бир шимолдаги чойни ичасизми?) - (Would you like a northern Uzbek tea?)
  • Person 2: Albatta, to‘yimdan so‘ng qahva ichasan. (Албатта, тўйимдан соғнғ қаҳва ичасан.) - (Sure, I will have coffee after my wedding.)
  • Person 1: Anor sharbat ichasizmi? (Анор шарбат ичасизми?) - (Would you like pomegranate juice?)
  • Person 2: Mayli, pishiqqa suv aytiladi. (Майли, пишиққа сув айтилади.) - (Maybe later, I prefer water with my meal.)
