Breton Grammar - Give your Opinion

Hi Breton learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn about how to give your opinion in Breton. Opinions are personal views or judgments about things, people, or situations. It's an important skill to have in conversations because it allows us to share our thoughts and insights with others. So let's get started!

Opinion Phrases

To give your opinion in Breton, you can use the following phrases:

Breton Pronunciation English
Meur a ra ac'hanoc'h mœr a ra açãnoχ In my opinion
Ar pezh a c'houlennan ar pɛz a xʊlɛnan What we ask
Drenkañ a ran (ne) drɛnkãn a ran (nɛ) I (don't) think
Brav eo din brav eɔ din I find it good / I like it
N'eo ket brav din neɔ kɛt brav din I find it not good / I don't like it

Note that "brav" means "good" in Breton and is often used to express that someone likes something.

Here's an example dialogue:

  • Person 1: Meur a ra ac'hanoc'h, Brezhoneg zo ur yezh mat. (In my opinion, Breton is a good language.)
  • Person 2: Ya, ar pezh a c'houlennan din ivez. (Yes, what we ask too.)

Adjectives

Adjectives are used to describe nouns in Breton. To give your opinion using adjectives, you can use the following sentence structure:

"Adjective" eo "noun"

For example:

  • "Braz eo ar mare-se" (Big is that sea)
  • "Mad eo ar boued-se" (Good is that food)

Here's an example dialogue:

  • Person 1: Braz eo ar mare-se. (Big is that sea.)

Breton Pronunciation English
Mat mat Good

Comparatives

Comparatives are used to compare two nouns in Breton. To give your opinion using comparatives, you can use the following sentence structure:

"Noun 1" zo "adjective" "ha" / "nemet" "adjective" "hag" "noun 2"

For example:

  • "Ar brezel zo bras ha sklaer" (The war is big and clear)
  • "Diskoulm zo fall nemet ar sevenadur" (The education is bad except the society)

Here's an example dialogue:

  • Person 1: Ar brezhoneg zo kaer hag an saozneg zo flemm. (Breton is beautiful and English is ugly.)

"Adjective" an "noun" zo "most adjective"

For example:

  • "An dud mat zo ar bed all" (The good people are the others of the world)
  • "An dud kozhoc'h zo an holl" (The oldest people are everyone)
