Hi [https://polyglotclub.com/language/marathi Marathi] learners! 😊<br>In this lesson, we will learn about the future tense in Marathi. We will look at how to form sentences in the future tense, and how to use them in everyday conversations. __TOC__

The future tense is used to talk about actions that will happen in the future. In Marathi, the future tense is formed by adding the suffix तोय (toy) to the verb stem. For example, the verb stem for the verb लागणे (lagne) is लागण् (lagna). To form the future tense, we add the suffix तोय (toy) to the verb stem, giving us लागणेतोय (lagnetoy).
Hi [https://polyglotclub.com/language/marathi Marathi] learners! 😊<br>In this lesson, we will learn about the Future Tense in Marathi. The Future Tense is used to talk about an action which will happen in the future.

Let's look at some examples of sentences in the future tense:

== Formation ==

To form the Future Tense in Marathi, we use the auxiliary verb "आहे" (ahe) which means "to be". We add the appropriate form of "आहे" to the present participle form of the main verb.

For example, to form the Future Tense of the verb "करणे" (karne) which means "to do", we use the following structure:

{| class="wikitable"
{| class="wikitable"
! Marathi !! Pronunciation !! English
|-
|-
! Marathi !! Pronunciation !! English Translation
| करत आहे || kart ahe || will do
|-
|}
| मी काही करेतोय || mee kahee karetoy || I will do something

|-
Another example using the verb "जाणे" (jane) which means "to go":
| तुझ्यासाठी मी काही करेतोय || tujhya saathhee mee kahee karetoy || I will do something for you

|-
{| class="wikitable"
| तुझ्यावर मी जाऊन जाऊतोय || tujhya var mee jaaun jaautoy || I will go to you
! Marathi !! Pronunciation !! English
|-
| तुझ्यावर मी आणून आणूतोय || tujhya var mee aanun aanutoy || I will come to you
|-
|-
| तुझ्यासाठी मी काही करून देतोय || tujhya saathhee mee kahee karoon detoy || I will give something to you
| जात आहे || jat ahe || will go
|}
|}

The future tense can also be used to talk about plans or intentions. For example:
Notice that we used the present participle form of the main verb. To form the present participle in Marathi, we remove the infinitive suffix "-णे" (-ne) from the verb and add "-त" (-t) instead.

For example, to form the present participle of the verb "करणे" (karne), we have:

{| class="wikitable"
{| class="wikitable"
! Marathi !! Pronunciation !! English
|-
|-
! Marathi !! Pronunciation !! English Translation
| करत || kart || doing
|-
| मी आज घरी जाऊन जाऊतोय || mee aaj gharhee jaaun jaautoy || I will go home today
|-
| मी आज काही करून देतोय || mee aaj kahee karoon detoy || I will give something today
|-
| मी आज काही करेतोय || mee aaj kahee karetoy || I will do something today
|-
| मी आज काही खाऊन खाऊतोय || mee aaj kahee khaaun khaautoy || I will eat something today
|-
| मी आज काही पहातोय || mee aaj kahee pahaatoy || I will see something today
|}
|}

The future tense can also be used to make predictions about the future. For example:
And to form the present participle of the verb "जाणे" (jane), we have:

{| class="wikitable"
{| class="wikitable"
! Marathi !! Pronunciation !! English
|-
|-
! Marathi !! Pronunciation !! English Translation
| जात || jat || going
|-
| तुझ्यासाठी मी काही करेतोय || tujhya saathhee mee kahee karetoy || I will do something for you
|-
| तुझ्यावर मी जाऊन जाऊतोय || tujhya var mee jaaun jaautoy || I will go to you
|-
| तुझ्यावर मी आणून आणूतोय || tujhya var mee aanun aanutoy || I will come to you
|-
| तुझ्यासाठी मी काही करून देतोय || tujhya saathhee mee kahee karoon detoy || I will give something to you

Unfortunately, not all verbs follow the same pattern to form the Future Tense. Some verbs have an irregular present participle form. For example:

* जाणे (jane) - to go - जात असणे (jat asane)
* होणे (hone) - to be - असत असणे (asat asane)
* येणे (yene) - to come - येत असणे (yet asane)
* करणे (karne) - to do - करत असणे (kart asane)

In these cases, we use the irregular present participle form with the auxiliary verb "आहे" (ahe) to form the Future Tense. For example:

* जात असत आहे (jat asat ahe) - will go
* असत असत आहे (asat asat ahe) - will be
* येत असत आहे (yet asat ahe) - will come
* करत असत आहे (kart asat ahe) - will do

Marathi Grammar - Future Tense

Hi Marathi learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn about the Future Tense in Marathi. The Future Tense is used to talk about an action which will happen in the future.

Formation

To form the Future Tense in Marathi, we use the auxiliary verb "आहे" (ahe) which means "to be". We add the appropriate form of "आहे" to the present participle form of the main verb.

For example, to form the Future Tense of the verb "करणे" (karne) which means "to do", we use the following structure:

Marathi Pronunciation English
करत आहे kart ahe will do

Another example using the verb "जाणे" (jane) which means "to go":

Marathi Pronunciation English
जात आहे jat ahe will go

Notice that we used the present participle form of the main verb. To form the present participle in Marathi, we remove the infinitive suffix "-णे" (-ne) from the verb and add "-त" (-t) instead.

For example, to form the present participle of the verb "करणे" (karne), we have:

Marathi Pronunciation English
करत kart doing

And to form the present participle of the verb "जाणे" (jane), we have:

Marathi Pronunciation English
जात jat going

Examples

Let's see some examples of the Future Tense in action:

Dialogue:

  • प्रशांत: शनिवारीला काय करत आहेस? (shanivaarila kay kart ahes?) - What will you do on Saturday?
  • आदित्य: माझं बायको आणि मी म्हणूनही आराम करत आहोत. (majha bayko ani mi mhanunhi aram kart ahot) - My wife and I will still relax.

Another example:

Dialogue:

  • सुधाकर: फारच उशीर झालेलंच आहे भाऊ, सुट्टी लागणार नाही का? (pharach ushir zhaalelencha ahe bhaau, suttii laagnaar naahi ka?) - It's already late brother, aren't you going to bed?
  • सौरभ: होय, थोडंच वेळ लागेल. (hoy, thodanch vel laagel) - Yes, in a little while.

Irregular Verbs

Unfortunately, not all verbs follow the same pattern to form the Future Tense. Some verbs have an irregular present participle form. For example:

  • जाणे (jane) - to go - जात असणे (jat asane)
  • होणे (hone) - to be - असत असणे (asat asane)
  • येणे (yene) - to come - येत असणे (yet asane)
  • करणे (karne) - to do - करत असणे (kart asane)

In these cases, we use the irregular present participle form with the auxiliary verb "आहे" (ahe) to form the Future Tense. For example:

  • जात असत आहे (jat asat ahe) - will go
  • असत असत आहे (asat asat ahe) - will be
  • येत असत आहे (yet asat ahe) - will come
  • करत असत आहे (kart asat ahe) - will do

Culture

Marathi is spoken by more than 83 million people worldwide and is one of the 22 official languages of India. It is the official language of the Indian state of Maharashtra and is also spoken in some neighboring states like Goa and Gujarat.

Marathi literature has a rich tradition dating back to the 13th century. It includes poetry, fiction, and drama, and has produced notable writers like Namdeo Dhasal, P. L. Deshpande, and V. S. Khandekar.
