Northern Kurdish Grammar - How to Use "Have"

In this lesson, we will learn how to use the verb "have" in Northern Kurdish. We will look at the conjugation of the verb and how it is used in different contexts.

Conjugation

The verb "have" in Northern Kurdish is (دی). It is an irregular verb and has a different conjugation for each person. Here is the conjugation table:

Em dîn hevalên xwe. /em diːn hevaːleːn xwe/ We have our friends.
Hûn dîn hevalên xwe. /huːn diːn hevaːleːn xwe/ You have your friends.
Ew dên hevalên xwe. /eːw deːn hevaːleːn xwe/ They have their friends.

Dialogue

Let's look at a dialogue between two people using the verb "have".

  • Person 1: Tu dî kesekî? (/tu diː keːsekeː/)

Translation: Do you have someone?

  • Person 2: Bê, ez nikarim kesekî bibînim. (/beː, ez niːkaːrim keːsekeː biːbiːnim/)

Translation: No, I can't find anyone.
