China Buriat Grammar - How to Ask Questions

Hi China Buriat learners! 😊
In today's lesson, we will be learning how to ask questions in China Buriat. Asking questions is an important part of any language, and it's essential to understand the rules and structure of questions in order to communicate effectively.

Question Word Order

In China Buriat, the word order for questions is different from that of statements. The verb always comes first, followed by the subject, and then the object. For example:

  • Statement: I eat an apple.
  • Question: Eat I an apple?

Question Words

Question words are used to ask specific questions. The most common question words in China Buriat are:

  • Who? (Хэн)
  • What? (Хана)
  • Where? (Хара)
  • When? (Ханан)
  • Why? (Ханана)
  • How? (Хананан)

For example:

  • Who is that? (Хэн ана?)
  • What are you doing? (Хана ту делат?)
  • Where are you going? (Хара ту идет?)
  • When did you arrive? (Ханан ту пришел?)
  • Why did you come here? (Ханана ту пришел сюда?)
  • How did you get here? (Хананан ту пришел сюда?)

Yes/No Questions

Yes/no questions are questions that can be answered with a simple yes or no. In China Buriat, these questions are formed by adding the particle ла at the end of the sentence. For example:

  • You are going to the store. (Ту идет в магазин.)
  • Are you going to the store? (Ту идет в магазин ла?)

Tag Questions

Tag questions are used to confirm information or to check if something is true. In China Buriat, tag questions are formed by adding the particle ла at the end of the sentence, followed by the pronoun. For example:

  • You are going to the store, aren't you? (Ту идет в магазин ла ту?)
  • She is coming tomorrow, isn't she? (Она придет завтра ла она?)
