Plurals are an important part of the Northern Kurdish language. They are used to indicate more than one of something, and they can be formed in a variety of ways. In this lesson, we will look at the different ways to form plurals in Northern Kurdish.
Nouns
Nouns are the most common type of word that can be pluralized in Northern Kurdish. To form the plural of a noun, you simply add the suffix "-an" to the end of the word. For example, the singular form of the word "kal" (meaning "dog") is "kalan".
Irregular Nouns
There are some nouns that do not follow the regular pattern of adding the suffix "-an". These nouns are known as irregular nouns, and they require a different approach when forming the plural.
For example, the singular form of the word "xwîn" (meaning "wine") is "xwînan".
Adjectives
Adjectives can also be pluralized in Northern Kurdish. To form the plural of an adjective, you simply add the suffix "-in" to the end of the word. For example, the singular form of the word "zêr" (meaning "beautiful") is "zêrin".
Irregular Adjectives
Just like with nouns, there are some adjectives that do not follow the regular pattern of adding the suffix "-in". These adjectives are known as irregular adjectives, and they require a different approach when forming the plural.
For example, the singular form of the word "serkeftî" (meaning "successful") is "serkeftin".
Verbs
Verbs can also be pluralized in Northern Kurdish. To form the plural of a verb, you simply add the suffix "-in" to the end of the word. For example, the singular form of the word "dixwaze" (meaning "want") is "dixwazin".
Irregular Verbs
Just like with nouns and adjectives, there are some verbs that do not follow the regular pattern of adding the suffix "-in". These verbs are known as irregular verbs, and they require a different approach when forming the plural.
For example, the singular form of the word "bûne" (meaning "become") is "binin".
Conclusion
In this lesson, we have looked at the different ways to form plurals in Northern Kurdish. We have seen that nouns, adjectives, and verbs can all be pluralized, and that there are both regular and irregular forms of each.
