Hi Morisyen learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn about the future tense in Morisyen. We will look at the rules for forming the future tense, some examples, and practice with a quiz. Let's get started!
Rules
The future tense in Morisyen is formed by adding the suffix -a to the verb stem. The verb stem is the part of the verb that remains after removing the infinitive ending -i. For example, the verb stem of the verb komiti (to read) is komit. To form the future tense, we add the suffix -a to the verb stem: komita (will read).
The future tense can also be formed with the auxiliary verb va (will). This is done by conjugating the verb va in the present tense and adding the infinitive form of the main verb. For example, mi va komi (I will read).
Examples
Morisyen | Pronunciation | English Translation |
---|---|---|
mi va komi | mee vah koh-mee | I will read |
yu va konpran | yoo vah kohn-prahn | you will understand |
zi va travay | zee vah trah-vay | he/she will work |
nou va al | noo vah ah-l | we will go |
yo va manje | yoh vah mahn-jeh | they will eat |
