Hi Twi learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn about the future tense in Twi. We will look at how to form sentences in the future tense and how to use them in everyday conversations.
The future tense is used to talk about events that will happen in the future. In Twi, the future tense is formed by adding the suffix -a to the verb stem. For example, the verb stem for "to go" is bɔ and the future tense of "to go" is bɔa.
Let's look at some examples:
Twi | Pronunciation | English Translation |
---|---|---|
me bɔa | me boh-ah | I will go |
wo deɛ | woh deh-eh | You will come |
ɔyɛ a | oh-yeh ah | He/She will see |
yɛbɔ a | yeh-boh ah | We will go |
nnipa bɔ a | nee-pah boh ah | They will go |
It is important to note that the future tense can also be used to express probability or likelihood. For example, if you want to say "I think I will go", you can say me bɔa sɛ me bɔ.
The future tense can also be used to express intention. For example, if you want to say "I intend to go", you can say me bɔa sɛ me bɔ.
The future tense can also be used to express a wish or desire. For example, if you want to say "I wish I could go", you can say me bɔa sɛ me bɔ.
Finally, the future tense can also be used to express a command or request. For example, if you want to say "Go!", you can say bɔa.
Now that you know how to form sentences in the future tense, let's look at some examples of how to use them in everyday conversations.
If someone asks you "Where are you going?", you can reply me bɔa.
If someone asks you "When will you come?", you can reply wo deɛ.
If someone asks you "What will you do?", you can reply me bɔa sɛ me bɔ.
If someone asks you "Will you go?", you can reply me bɔa.
If someone asks you "Can you come?", you can reply wo deɛ.
If someone asks you "Do you want to go?", you can reply me bɔa sɛ me bɔ.
Now that you know how to use the future tense in everyday conversations, it's time to practice!
