Slovak Grammar - Future Tense

In this lesson, we will learn about the future tense in Slovak. We will look at how to form the future tense, as well as some examples of its use. Let's get started!

Forming the Future Tense

The future tense in Slovak is formed by adding the appropriate ending to the verb stem. The endings are as follows:

Person Ending
First person singular -em
Second person singular -eš
Third person singular -e
First person plural -eme
Second person plural -ete
Third person plural

For example, the verb byť (to be) has the following forms in the future tense:

First person singular budem
Second person singular budeš
Third person singular bude
First person plural budeme
Second person plural budete
Third person plural budú

Examples

Here are some examples of the future tense in action:

budem hovoriť boodem hoh-voh-ree-teh I will speak
budeš piť boodehsh peet You will drink
bude ísť boodeh eesh-teh He/She will go
budeme jesť boodehme yeh-steh We will eat

budú pracovať boodoo prah-tsoh-vah-teh They will work
