Azeri, sometimes called Azerbaijani (Azərbaycan dili or Azərbaycan Türkcəsi), or Azeri Turkish, is a language belonging to the group of Turkic languages, sometimes included in the super-family (today greatly disowned by the scientific community) of Altaic languages. It is spoken in the Caucasus and the Middle East, mainly in Azerbaijan and Iran. The total number of speakers is estimated at between 25 and 35 million, including just over 9 million in Azerbaijan and between 10 and 13 million in Iran.
