Present Tense Conjugation in Basque

TO BE (IZAN)

Conjugation

Here is the conjugation table of IZAN (TO BE) in the present indicative:

Euskara	English
ni naiz	I am
hi haiz	you are (to a relative)
hau / hori / hura da	he/she is (according to proximity)
gu gara	we are
zu zara	you are / you are (to someone you are not close to)
zuek zarete	you are (to a group)
hauek / horiek / haiek dira	they are (according to proximity)

Some sample sentences:

ni gaztea naiz	me, i am young
hi handia haiz	you are great (to a close person)
gu gaixoak gara	we are sick
hura polita da	she (over there), she is pretty
zuek aberatsak zarete	you, you are rich (to a group)
hauek txikiak dira	these are small / they are small

Note

In the sentences above, indicating the personal pronoun is not obligatory, since the verb is sufficiently differentiated between persons. Thus, these sentences can be written:
