What Swedes do in their Spare Time

In this lesson's dialogue, Hans and Maria talked about different spare time activities they had engaged in, which leads us to the question: What do Swedes like to do when they're free? This of course differs from person to person, but if we look at the adult population, the most common activities are watching TV, listening to the radio, and spending time with other people. After these activities, a lot of time is also spent on playing sports and doing outdoors activities. Reading, doing different hobbies, engaging in the volunteer sector, and enjoying culture are popular as well. Youth, on the other hand, are a bit more active, and the most common spare time activities for this group are playing different types of sports or engaging in activities that relate to music, song, or dance. Meeting friends and watching movies or TV come after that.
