Hi Welsh learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will be learning the days of the week in Welsh, so you can easily talk about your daily routine with your Welsh-speaking friends. Not only will you have new vocabulary to impress them with, but you’ll learn more about the Welsh language and culture. Let's get started!

Introduction[edit | edit source]

Welsh is a Celtic language spoken in Wales by over 700,000 people. It is recognized as an official language in Wales, along with English. Welsh has been spoken in Wales for over 1,400 years, and learning Welsh is a key part of Welsh identity and culture.

Here are the Welsh words for the days of the week. To help you with pronunciation, we’ve included an audio guide below, and a table with their English translations.

Remember to practice saying these words out loud to get comfortable with the pronunciation.

Here is a dialogue to practice the days of the week in context:

  • Person 1: Beth wyt ti’n gwneud ar y Dydd Llun? (What are you doing on Monday?)
  • Person 2: Dw i’n mynd i’r sinema ar y Dydd Mawrth. (I am going to the cinema on Tuesday.)
  • Person 1: Dw i’n hoffi gwneud siopa ar y Dydd Mercher. A wyt ti’n gallu dod gyda fi? (I like shopping on Wednesday. Can you come with me?)
  • Person 2: Ydw, dw i’n gallu dod! (Yes, I can come!)
  • Person 1: Wyt ti'n gweithio ar y Dydd Iau? (Do you work on Thursday?)
  • Person 2: Ydw, dw i’n gweithio ar y Dydd Iau. (Yes, I work on Thursday.)

Remember to practice this dialogue with a friend or language partner and try changing the days of the week to make your own conversations!
