Hi Welsh learners! 😊 In this lesson, we will explore how to give your opinion in Welsh. Making your opinion known can be daunting in any language, but it's important to be able to express yourself clearly and confidently. We'll cover some useful vocabulary, grammar, and cultural aspects of giving opinions in Welsh.

Before we start expressing our opinions, let's take a look at some Welsh words and phrases that will come in handy.

Useful phrases:

Grammar[edit | edit source]

To give your opinion in Welsh, you can use the verb "Meddwl" which means "To think". You can just add the subject of the sentence after that verb:

For example:

  • Dwi'n meddwl bod y tywydd yn boeth heddiw. (I think the weather is hot today.)
  • Ti'n meddwl bod y ffilm yn dda. (You think the film is good.)

Another way to express opinion is by using the phrase 'I think that'. In Welsh, this is translated as 'Dwi'n meddwl bod'.

For example:

  • Dwi’n meddwl bod hi’n hen traddodiad. - I think it is an old tradition.
  • Dwi'n meddwl bod Bae Colwyn yn le hyfryd. - I think Colwyn Bay is a lovely place.

You can also use the phrase 'In my opinion' to add emphasis to your viewpoint. This is translated as 'Yn fy marn i'.

For example:

  • Yn fy marn i, mae'r gwaith yn llwyddiant mawr. - In my opinion, the work is a great success.
  • Yn fy marn i, mae'r Fenter yng Nghaerdydd yn werth ei chwilio. - In my opinion, the enterprise in Cardiff is worth investigating.

For a more formal tone, you can use the phrase 'Y farn honno'.

For example:

  • Y farn honno yw … (That opinion is…)
