Future Tense - எதிர்காலம்

Future Tense is used to refer to an event or occurrence that has not yet happened or is expected to happen in the future.

Once you have a handle on which verbs are strong and which verbs are weak, putting verbs into the future tense shouldn’t be too hard.

Future Tense - Weak Verbs

For pronouns (other than அது/அவை), verb root + வ் + verb suffix

Examples

• நீங்கள் ஓடுவீர்கள் = “You will run.”
• அவன் தூங்குவான் = “He will sleep.”
• அவர்கள் பேசுவார்களா? = “Will they speak?”
• நாய் நாளைக்கு உட்காரும் = “The dog will sit tomorrow.”

Future Tense - Strong Verbs

For pronouns (other than அது/அவை), verb root + ப்ப் + verb suffix

Examples

• நீ கொடுப்பாயா?= “Will you give?”
• அவை குடிக்கும் = “They will drink.”
• நீங்கள் எங்கு வசிப்பீர்கள்? = “Where will you live?”
• நாங்கள் சமைப்போம் = “We will cook.”

I will see you	உன்னை நான் பார்ப்பேன் unnai nAn pArppEn
I will write with a pen	ஒரு பேனாவால் நான் எழுதுவேன் oru pEnAvAl nAn ezhudhuvEn
You will give money	பணத்தை நீ கொடுப்பாய் paNaththai nI koduppAy
You will play tennis	டென்னிஸை நீ விளையாடுவாய் tennisai nI viLaiyAduvAy
He will understand me	அவன் என்னை புரிந்துக் கொள்வான் avan ennai purindhuk koLvAn
She will have a cat	ஒரு பூனை அவளிடம் இருக்கும் oru poonai avaLidam irukkum
She will know you	உன்னை அவள் அறிவாள் unnai avaL aRivAL
We will want to see you	உன்னை பார்ப்பதற்கு நாங்கள் விருப்பப்படுவோம் unnai pArppadhaRkku nAngaL viruppappaduvOm
You (plural) will work here	நீங்கள் இங்கே வேலை செய்வீர்கள் nIngaL ingE vElai seyvIrgaL
You (plural) will speak French	நீங்கள் ஃப்ரென்ஞ்சை பேசிவீர்கள் nInaL frenchai pEsuvIrkaL
They will drive a car	அவர்கள் ஒரு காரை ஓட்டுவார்கள் avargaL oru kArai OttuvArgaL
