Spanish Vocabulary and Dialogues - At the Bar

In this language lesson, we will be focusing on Spanish vocabulary related to the bar.

Dialogue[edit | edit source]

Context: In this dialogue, two friends are ordering drinks at a bar in Madrid. They use the vocabulary above to order their drinks and also ask for a plate of olives. The waitress responds to their requests and brings their drinks and the plate of olives.

Dialogue 1[edit | edit source]

  • Friend 1: Hola, ¿quieres tomar algo? (Hi, do you want to have something to drink?)
  • Friend 2: Sí, me gustaría una cerveza de barril, por favor. (Yes, I would like a draught beer, please.)
  • Waitress: Claro, ¿una copa o directamente de la botella? (Sure, would you like a glass or straight from the bottle?)
  • Friend 2: Una copa, por favor. (A glass, please.)
  • Friend 1: Yo tomaré una cerveza negra. (I'll have a brown ale.)
  • Waitress: Perfecto, ¿una copa también? (Perfect, a glass too?)
  • Friend 1: Sí, por favor.
  • Waitress: Aquí tienen sus bebidas. (Here are your drinks.)
  • Friend 2: Gracias. ¿Nos puedes traer un plato de aceitunas también, por favor? (Thank you. Can you also bring us a plate of olives, please?)
  • Waitress: Claro, enseguida se lo traigo. (Sure, I'll bring it right away.)

The context of this dialogue is a group of friends at a bar in Madrid, ordering drinks and asking about the quality and availability of different beverages.

  • Friend 1: ¿Qué tal está la cerveza aquí? (How's the beer here?)
  • Waitress: Está muy buena, es una de nuestras especialidades. (It's very good, it's one of our specialties.)
  • Friend 2: ¿Tienen vermut? (Do you have vermouth?)
  • Waitress: Sí, tenemos vermut blanco y rojo. (Yes, we have white and red vermouth.)
  • Friend 1: Me gustaría probar el vermut blanco, por favor. (I'd like to try the white vermouth, please.)
  • Friend 2: ¿Tienen limonada? (Do you have lemonade?)
  • Waitress: Sí, tenemos limonada casera muy fresca. (Yes, we have very fresh homemade lemonade.)
  • Friend 1: ¿Qué tal está el vino tinto? (How's the red wine?)
  • Waitress: El vino tinto es muy bueno, viene de una bodega local. (The red wine is very good, it comes from a local winery.)
  • Friend 2: ¿Tienen algún cóctel especial? (Do you have any special cocktails?)
  • Waitress: Sí, nuestro cóctel especial es el "Madrid Mule", hecho con ginebra, jengibre y lima. (Yes, our special cocktail is the "Madrid Mule", made with gin, ginger, and lime.)
