Basic Conjugation in Spanish

In this article you will learn the basic tenses in Spanish.

Tenses

In Spanish there are many tenses to refer, but we will only talk about the four most basic and used

• Presente (Present): Everything that happens now, at this moment

• Pasado Imperfecto (Imperfect Past): What was happening at some point but stopped happening

• Pasado Perfecto (Past Perfect): It is a fact in the past

• Futuro (Future): Everything that still does not happen

Future Tense

In Spanish the verb changes when referring to a future fact, although there are certain guidelines to conjugate them

Future verbs end like this;

	Termination	Example 1 (comprar)	Example 2 (reir)
Yo	re	comprare	reire
Tu	ras	compraras	reirás
Él/Ella	ra	comprara	reira
Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes	ran	compraran	reiran
Nosotros	remos	compraremos	reiremos

Past Tense

As in the future, when the verb is in past also changes and there are certain guidelines to conjugate them, although there are exceptions

Verbs in the imperfect past end up like this (except those finish in "ar"):

	Termination	Example 1 (comer)	Example 2 (reir)
Yo	ía	Comía	Reía
Tu	ías	Comías	Reías
Él/Ella	ía	Comía	Reía
Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes	ían	Comían	Reían
Nosotros	íamos	Comíamos	Reíamos

Verbs finished in "ar" (example cantar) in imperfect past end like this:

	Termination	Example 1 (cantar)	Example 2 (bailar)
Yo	aba	Cantaba	Bailaba
Tu	abas	Cantabas	Bailabas
Él/Ella	aba	Cantaba	Bailaba
Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes	aban	Cantaban	Bailaban
Nosotros	ábamos	Cantábamos	Bailábamos

The verbs in Perfect Past will end like this:

Yo	í	comí	reí
Tu	íste	comíste	reiste
Él/Ella	ío	comío	río
Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes	ieron	comieron	rieron
Nosotros	ímos	comímos	reímos

Verbs finished in "ar" (example cantar) in Perfect Past end like this

Yo	e	cante	bailé
Tu	aste	cantaste	bailaste
Él/Ella	o	cantó	bailó
Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes	aron	cantaron	bailaron
Nosotros	amos	cantamos	bailamos
