Rules[edit | edit source]

The adjective is a modifier, ie it modifies the noun to which it relates and agrees in gender and number with this same noun. Generally, in Sicilian, the adjective follows the noun:

English Sicilian
The beautiful house La casa bedda
The little tree L'arvulu nicu
The high wall Lu muru autu
He climbed the high ladder Acchianò la scala auta
We have a beautiful horse Avèmu un cavàddu beddu
They gave him a red ball A ìddu ci dèttiru na palla russa
My brother had a little dog Mê frati avìa un cani nicu

Sometimes the adjective comes before the noun, which it modifies to give greater emphasis to the subject.
