There is no simple rule how to form comparative-superlative from adjective. Suffixes can vary from case to case.

Link between comparatives and superlatives are simple, since superlative always have prefix "нај" + comparative.

**Example with transiting L into O (прелазак Л у О), old Serbian masculine form for fat is дебел.

Next examples will be written only in masculine gender. As you saw in previous example, masculine adjective have no ending from root word, and comparative/superlative ends with "i"; feminine ends always with "a"; and neutral adj. ends with "o", and comparative/superlative ends with "e".

Usage in sentences[edit | edit source]

Than can be translated as од or него, but grammar case in not the same in both forms:

Maria is taller than Anna[edit | edit source]

  • Марија је виша од Ане. (Nominative-Genitive)
  • Марија је виша него Ана. (Nominative-Nominative)

Raven is smarter than dog[edit | edit source]

  • Гавран је паметнији од пса. (Nominative-Genitive)
  • Гавран је паметнији него пас. (Nominative-Nominative)

London is smaller than New York[edit | edit source]

  • Лондон је мањи од Њујорка. (Nominative-Genitive)
  • Лондон је мањи него Њујорк. (Nominative-Nominative)

You are faster than me[edit | edit source]

  • Ти си бржи од мене. (Nominative-Genitive)
  • Ти си бржи него ја. (Nominative-Nominative)
