However, the more you practice, the more accustomed you will become to find words to express yourself in Panjabi. Here are some common words you can use to express emotions and feelings:

  • ਖੁਸ਼ੀ- khushi- happiness
  • ਦੁੱਖ - dukh- sadness
  • ਘਬਰਾਹਟ - ghbrahat- anxiety
  • ਖਿਆਲਾਤ - khialaat- mood
  • ਪਿਆਰ - pyar- love
  • ਨਫਰਤ - nafrat- hate

These words can be used in simple sentences to convey your emotions. For example:

ਮੈਂ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ। Main shaam nu khushi naal manawanda haan. I celebrate the evening with happiness.

ਉਸਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਿਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। Osdi maut ho gayi si te osde pyar nu main bahut miss karda haan. She passed away, and I miss her love very much.

Remember that the words above are just a few of the many words you can use in Panjabi to express emotions and feelings. The key is to learn them and practice using them in everyday conversations.

Adjectives that Describe Feelings[edit | edit source]

Adjectives are the words you use to describe emotions or moods. Knowing these adjectives is crucial when creating sentences that require you to communicate your feelings clearly. Some of the adjectives you can use include:

  • ਦੁਖੀ - dukhi- sad
  • ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ - khushiyaan- happy
  • ਉਦਾਸ - udaas- melancholy

ਮੈਂ ਦੁਖੀ ਹਾਂ। Main dukhi haan. I am sad.

ਮੈਂ ਖੁਸੀਆਂ ਹਾਂ। Main khushiyaan haan. I am happy.

ਉਸਦੇ ਜਾਣ ਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਉਦਾਸ ਸੀ। Usde jaan kar main udaas si. I was melancholy after knowing about his/her departure.

ਸਾਡਾ ਮੁਲਕ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਖੇਵਲ ਵਧੀਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। Sada mulk sathiti khewal vadhiya nahi hai. The situation of our country is not good.

ਆਪਣੇ ਜਸਬਾਤੀ ਪਰ ਨਿਯੰਤਰਣ ਹੱਦ ਤਕ ਲਾਂਘ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ। Apne jasbaati par niyantran hadd tak langh chuke han. My emotions have passed the limit of my control.

Expressing Opinions[edit | edit source]

Opinions and preferences are essential when it comes to emotional communication. In Panjabi, you can use the following phrases to express your opinions:

  • ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ - Mainu lagda hai- I think/I feel
  • ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ - Mere vichaar vich- In my opinion
  • ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਹਾਂ - Main is de baare sochda haan- I am thinking about this

By using these phrases, you can communicate your opinion on different subjects and issues. Here is an example of how to put them to practical use:

ਮੈਂ ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਖਾਣਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਸੰਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਬਜੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਧੀਆ ਹੈ। Main nihangaan da khana bahut pasand karda haan, mere vichaar vich eh saare sabziyaan ton vadhiya hai. I like eating Nihang's food, and in my opinion, it is better than all other vegetables.

This example shows how you can use the phrases in Panjabi to communicate your opinion on food. Practice using these phrases on other topics you feel passionate about.

Talking About Your Moods[edit | edit source]

Mood is an essential aspect of emotional communication, and it's necessary to know how to describe them correctly. In Panjabi, you can use the following words to describe your moods:

  • ਚਿੱਡਾ - chidda- irritated
  • ਅਸਥਿਰ - asthir- unstable
  • ਸ਼ਾਂਤ - shaant- calm
  • ਤਣਾਅ - tanaa- frustrated
  • ਭਾਵੁਕ - bhaavuk- sentimental

By using these words, you can describe how you're feeling to others clearly. Here is an example:

ਮੈਂ ਅਜ ਬਹੁਤ ਚਿੱਡਾ ਸੀ। Main aj bahut chidda si. I was very irritated today.

ਇਹ ਗਰਮੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਅਸਥਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਵੱਧ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ। Eh garmi sade asthir nu hor vadh kar ditti hai. This heat has made my instability worse.

ਮੈਂ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। Main hamesha shaant hunda haan. I am always calm.

ਕੁਝ ਹਫਤੇ ਤਕ ਤਣਾਅ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਗੁਜਰਾ। Kujh hafton tak tanaa da sama guzra. I spent a few weeks in frustration.

ਮੈਂ ਭਾਵੁਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ। Main bhaavuk ho ke kujh nahi kar paunda. I become sentimental and cannot do anything.

Again, keep in mind that these are just a few examples, and you can find many more words to describe your moods in Panjabi.
