Astrology is a fascinating collection of beliefs and traditions that suggest the position of planets and constellations in the solar system and universe at the time of a person's birth have a direct influence on their character. Your birth date assigns you an astrological sign, which determines your personality and way of life. In this lesson, we will explore astrology in different languages and cultures, focusing on the most famous astrologies: Greek Astrology and Chinese Astrology. These two systems are quite different from each other, offering unique insights into the world of astrology.

Chinese zodiac is used in East Asia, Central Asia and part of West Asia. The signs are determined by the activities of animals in a day. Dragon is determined by the foggy time of a day, because it was believed that the dragon is associated with the fog.

地支 (dìzhī; dei6 zi1; tē-tsi): the twelve earthly branches, opposed by 天干 (tiāngān; tin1 gon1; thian-kan) the ten heavenly stems.

In Chinese, the words for 地支 can not indicate the animal, while in most other languages, the animals must be made clear.

Mesoamerican[edit | edit source]

There are two types of Mesoamerican calendars: a 260-day calendar for ritual practice and a 365-day calendar for daily life.

In the 260-day calendar, days are divided into 20 cycles evenly; in the 365-day calendar, days are divided into 18 cycles evenly with 5 remaining days.
