Days of the Week in Chinese
Hi Chinese learners,
In Mandarin Chinese, there are 3 ways to tell the days of the week, like what is shown below:
- They can start with
星期 (xīng qī)
week, which is星(xīng)star + 期(qī) period
. - They can also start with
周(zhōu)
, the second way to say "week". - The third way to say "week" is
礼拜 (lǐ bài)
, which literally means "worship".
➡ To say a specific day of the week (like Monday, Tuesday...), you just need to add a number after 星期
, 周
or 礼拜
.
➡ If you want to say something like "one week" or "two weeks", you put numbers before them.
English | Chinese #1 | Chinese #2 | Chinese #3 |
---|---|---|---|
As you can see, only Sunday is different, it doesn't end in a number, it ends in 日(rì)day, or 天(tiān)sky
