Structure[edit | edit source]

To make a negative verb, you just have to put in front of it:

  • is used almost in all cases, except for the verb “to desire” 要 ‹ yào ›. Actually in Chinese, 要 ‹ yào › is used as a modal verb to show one’s thoughts or desires. But when expressing the negative of , we generally say 不想 ‹ bù xiǎng ›. 不要 ‹ bú yào › is just for colloquial use.
