Let's learn the days of the week in Japanese compared to several other languages.

Kanji Hiragana Romaji French English Meaning Relation
日曜日 にちようび Nichiyoubi Dimanche Sunday Day of the Sun Sun
月曜日 げつようび Getsuyoubi Lundi Monday Day of the Moon Moon
火曜日 かようび Kayoubi Mardi Tuesday Day of fire Mars
水曜日 すいようび Suiyoubi Mercredi Wednesday Day of water Mercury
木曜日 もくようび Mokuyoubi Jeudi Thursday Day of wood Jupiter
金曜日 きにようび Kinyoubi Vendredi Friday Day of gold Venus
土曜日 どようび Doyoubi Samedi Saturday Day of Saturn

In every languages, the meaning is the same even if source may differ a little.

In fact, some use Scandinavian mythology, other use Antic Greece mythology and yet others use the Roman mythology.

However, there is always as an equivalence.

In some countries like South East Asia or countries with English influence, the week starts with Sunday and not Monday!
