A continent is one of Earth’s seven main land divisions. From largest to smallest, they are Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia/Oceania. The continents are identified by convention rather than by strict criteria. Some believe that there are fewer continents, such as the six-continent model, which combines Europe and Asia into Eurasia.

A country is defined as a nation or state with its own government or as an area of land that forms an independent political unit with its own government. There are about 195 countries in the world today. 193 of these countries are members of the United Nations (UN) and two countries are not: Vatican City and the State of Palestine.
